James Howells, an early Bitcoin investor, is considering legal action to recover his lost Bitcoin worth nearly $560 million. Howells accidentally threw away a hard drive containing 7,500 Bitcoins ten years ago and is now preparing to take legal action to recover this fortune.
Howells’s Efforts to Find Bitcoin-Containing Hard Drive
Howells believes the hard drive is in a landfill in the UK and wants to start search efforts. However, Newport City Council, citing environmental regulations, does not allow digging in the landfill. Howells has offered to give a portion of the earnings if he finds the Bitcoin, but this offer has not been accepted so far.
Legal Process to Access Howells’s Bitcoin
Howells is now waiting for the UK Supreme Court to approve the search operation and also has the support of hedge fund investors. However, Newport City Council stated that any excavation in the landfill would have a significant impact on the environment and therefore cannot be allowed.
James Howells wants a chance to recover his property and refuses to accept that the abandoned Bitcoins in the landfill will be forgotten. Expressing his determination to pursue his lost fortune, Howells hopes to finally access his Bitcoins after years of effort.
